Best Spa Ever: Sante Spa Calgary

A couple of weeks ago, I went to get a facial at the Sante Spa Calgary. The spa has been newly renovated, and is an absolutely beautiful space located in Calgary’s trendy Mission district. It – and its sister spa The Spa Ritual – are the only Alberta Spas to get the national Quality Assurance Approval as part of a pilot project of the Leading Spas of Canada. The spas were evaluated in the areas of instrument sterilization, hygienic standards in treatment protocols, equipment and facility safety and cleanliness, safety and security procedures, staff certification and education, proper signage and customer service standards in addition to an evaluation of human resource processes and marketing materials. Now that the pilot program is finished, other spas might be asking to get approved as well, but it’s likely that Sante Spa and the Spa Ritual will be the spas that will be approved.

One of the things that shows the Spa’s commitment to hygiene are their pedicure thrones. They have massage, and music available but they also have a totally pipeless system for dealing with their water. With regular pedicure thrones, even though the dirty water gets drained after the treatment, there’s still dirty – and possibly infected – water left in the pipes, so leftover does end up getting into the basins. The warm temperature of the water is conducive to bacteria and is difficult to fully sanitize. The basins for the system at Sante Spa still vibrate the water and massage your feet, but there’s no leftover dirty water that’s infecting the basins. The water is simply drained and the basin sanitized completely.

Sante Spa is a medical aesthetics spa, so there’s a huge range of services that they offer (including one for busting cellulite), but I received a Darphin facial which is a more traditional spa service. The spa included steaming, extractions, which were followed by disinfecting, and then the rest of the facial. Of course, they used Darphin products which are full of essential oils that help relax you and help your skin. From top to bottom, the entire procedure was so relaxing that I fell asleep before and after the extractions. It was just so relaxing, and the feeling of my aesthetician’s hands massaging the creamy products into my face was amazing.

The entire process lasts 90 minutes and costs $220. Going to the spa was such a relaxing experience, and I was very impressed by the spa. Not only is it super clean, but very up to date on the services that it offers. Perhaps the coolest product (besides a machine that busts cellulite) is their computer system that shows what you could look like after receiving Restylane or Botox injections. The results can be great, and it’s nice to see what you might want to be able to improve on your face.
